Food & Memory

Might a cone piled with pistachio gelato return you to a sweltering August day in Rome? Does an oyster’s brine remind you of the first time you swam in the sea? In this workshop, we’ll read examples of lush, affecting food writing, then experiment with using food as a gateway to our own histories, describing memories in vivid, sensory language. Participants can choose to respond to prompts in prose or poetry.
