Carriage Roads & Conservation Walk and Talk
Join Steve Kemp, a former National Park Ranger and author of An Exaltation of Parks: John D. Rockefeller Jr.’s Crusade to Save America’s Wonderlands on a walk along a carriage trail in Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historic Park. Learn about the history of the carriage trails and enjoy one of the most beautiful walks in Woodstock. Meet in the lobby of the Billings Farm and Museum.
The building of carriage roads by John D. Rockefeller Jr. (and his father) had a lot to do with Junior’s pivot toward conservation philanthropy. Junior was a compulsive carriage road builder, and the National Park Service learned to leverage his donations by letting him continue to build more and more carriage roads in Acadia National Park.
