“How Indie Bookstore Survive in the Amazon Age.”
Michael DeSanto has enjoyed a rich and varied life including service in the U.S.Army, earning an MFA in Theater, working as an actor, and a career as a government affairs manager and lobbyist before venturing into bookstore ownership in Vermont in 1995 with the purchase of The Book Rack & Children’s Pages in Winooski, where he and his wife, Renee Reiner, invested nearly everything to own and operate it for eight years.
They now own Phoenix Books as a part of their larger organization, Maple Tree Books, which includes 5 independent book stores around the state, a publishing house, a mobile bookstore, and with plans for more book-related businesses to come. Michael will be located on the Woodstock Green where you can learn first-hand about the VT Independent Bookstore Passport, the VT Author’s Project, Onion River Press & how indie bookstores survive and thrive in the age of Amazon.
