Join award-winning writer Jennifer Militello as she reads from Knock Wood, winner of the Dzanc Nonfiction Prize. After a knock on wood to ward off illness sets off a series of events and memories, Militello explores her life through the lens of three intertwined elements: the story of a mentally ill aunt in an abusive marriage; a high school romance with a boy who eventually dies of a heroin overdose; and a love affair characterized by an otherworldly connection.
Militello is also the author of four collections of poetry, including, most recently, A Camouflage of Specimens and Garments, called “positively bewitching” by Publishers Weekly, and Body Thesaurus, named one of the top books of 2013 by Best American Poetry. Her work has appeared in Best New Poets, The Nation, The New Republic, The Paris Review, and Tin House. She teaches in the MFA program at New England College.
