James Sturm and Sonny Saul
Birdsong is a unique performance celebrating the art of comics and music featuring the images of cartoonist James Sturm and sounds of composer and pianist Sonny Saul. James Sturm is the cofounder of The Center for Cartoon Studies in White River Junction and the creator of several graphic novels. Sonny Saul is owner of Pleasant Street Books in Woodstock, VT and is a writer and music teacher. This is their first collaboration. Sonny was born in Atlantic City. Before he was ten he worked Saturday mornings at the corner Jewish candy store, bringing in and sorting the comics that were delivered that day in exchange for a few issues of his favorites; Superman and Archie. His first musical job as a kid was playing piano for silent movies. James was born in New York City. The first concert he ever attended was Joe Jackson at an amusement park in New Jersey.
