Benjamin Aleshire travels the world as a poet-for-hire, composing poems for strangers on a manual typewriter. [2:00 Friday, UU North Chapel]His work has appeared or is forthcoming in Iowa Review, Boston Review, and many others. Recently he was featured in El Mundo, in Spain, and on SinoVision TV, in China. A Vermont native from Cuttingsville, he is now based in New Orleans. In 2016 he was a finalist for the Iowa Review Award, and was selected as a waiter-scholar at Breadloaf. Ben is a recipient of a Creation Grant from the Vermont Arts Council, the Chighizola Prize from the University of New Orleans, and residencies at the BCA Center in Burlington, and at Künstlerhaus Vorwerk-Stift in Hamburg. His artist-book of visual poems, Currency, is now available through Honeybee Press, a traditional book-arts cooperative. He works for the Green Mountain Review.
